How Animation impact the world today? (Study Skills)

Task 3 Reflective Practise

How Animations impact the world today?
What is animation? Animation is the process or the art of making life; it is a form of visual art that is full of vigor and life. Animation is done by flipping or showing a series of drawings in succession in that each drawing are connected and are communicating with each other to create movement from a still drawing. The drawings are shown by 24 pieces in one second and because of that speed of transition our eyes get cheated and make as if the drawings are all but one piece of drawing that is moving and send this to our brains therefore we see it as a moving object or drawing.
Animation has brought much to our world in terms of entertainment and technology, this field is very competitive in terms of technology every country or animation development companies are always racing to create the first photo realism animation. The reason why animation is widely pursued by the world is because animation can be controlled by the animator doing this that what normal humans can’t do. Animation is not only used in the movie industry but also gaming and advertisement industry. Most of the time animation is used in the gaming industry because they are created using CGI (Computer Generated Images) and animation has a very tight connection with CGI.
In the movie field, animation has been used to create children movies such as Toy Story, Mars Attack and many more but why do they use animation and not real life acting, that’s because animation provides both the cartoonish and real life feel to those who watches it. It is a good combination for the whole family to enjoy together. In it’s very much success over the movie industry, movie directors and producers began to try adding animation and real life acting together in a movie working together but at the same time they does not look apart from each other.

In the gaming industry, animation is used even more to tell a story. Animations in games are created for the sole purpose of storytelling in ways that normal gameplay can’t, it is very similar to movie animation but only resides in games. In other parts of the game, animation is used for the movement of the characters and objects within the game these animations are done with reality physics in mind to create a more realistic feel to the character.
Such animation brings out the live in them making them more believable to the audience and from there we have kids and children get their own ideal superhero or character in their lives. Great game character impacts audience in their lives leaving an impression that they will remember forever whether it be good or bad, they can relate it to their lives.

Animation has contributed much to our world in terms of entertainment purposes however we gain something from the fierce competition of quality animation, which is technology advancement. Each year developers tries to create the one animation which is better than the previous in terms of realism and believability, to create that one animation in which can be said to be on the same level as real live acting. Graphics technology is constantly upgraded and improved to make the ultimate animation in which none have achieve yet.

Although movie makers and game developers are always trying to make the ultimate animation, we also somehow get technological ideas from animations as well. Because of current technology certain objects or technologies that are shown in animation seems unreal but some technology are not impossible to achieve. Because it is shown in the animation people from Research and Development (R&D) gets the ideas and they work towards that technology and improve the qualities of human lives, in a way animation is also a medium of idea generation.

What is Graphic Design and Designer? (Study Skills)

What is Graphic Design?

Graphic Design is the term of visual arts used in our daily lives from signs to symbols that interpret many meanings with just one look. Graphic Design is a very wide area that consists of many fields in design from typography to art style or even cultural designs. In the old days graphic design was hand-drawn and painted, now we can use CGI (Computer Generated Images) to make designs as well. Graphic Design is also another method of making a boring object or subject into something interesting in terms of visuals.

The Evolution of the field started from when in 1950s the publishing industry received a high demand of use for it after the World War 2. Publishers are in need of graphic designs for their magazine, newspaper, poster and all sorts. The needs for visual design emerged from the western countries after World War 2 and since then the development of the field have been ongoing. Bright and attractive packaging, colourful and clear signboards all are being used and the competition gets intense as time goes by, the competition between companies are fierce that they are constantly looking for new and talented graphic designers to make new and attractive design for their packaging or products, costumers are fully attracted by the designs and the boost of buying and demand is seen.

Graphic design are now a part of our daily lives, the signboards we use, the typography we see are all graphics design evolved from the past till today, graphic design is highly affected by technology. Technologically graphic design changes from hand drawn to computer generated, ever since computer was created and widely used, design are also implement into computers, ever since graphic design became a field of work on its own one that is highly considered as a professional work.

What is a Graphic Designer?

An airplane has a pilot, an art has a painter, a car has a driver, for design there is the designer. The designer is the middleman between the client and consumer the person who connects the two into an understanding through visual means. The designer first needs to research the theme and concept wanted by the client and then forge that concept or theme into a form that both the client and consumer will accept.

The process for this is research on the theme and then provides with many sketches of ideas each different from the other and then compare them with the client, explanation is needed to help the client understand the design and why it is design in this way. The design is then improved more through typography to help enhance the effect of the design. However the designer’s work does not end there, there are more all the designs and sketches that the designer has done now it’s time for execution. Executing which means making the design sketch into the design itself, the designer need to recreate the sketch in a more final and detailed version one that will be mass produced or published into the world, mistakes here are intolerant so the designer must put his uttermost concentration and effort to work the design into a complete and perfect one.

Even with the best design and beautiful colours, a design is a failure if the design fails to convey the message that is needed to be conveyed to the audience or customers. The main reason for the design is that to convey a certain message to the audience in a fun and creative way, this is to eliminate the conventional and boring way of face to face talk. Using design to do the talking is what a designer should do. The designs are usually examined using the deconstruction method where one breaks down on how, why, what the design is done in this way then the questions are then discussed whether is this a good design or is this a common design.

What is Graphic Design?

What is Graphic Design?

Is a form of visual communication that tells or explain something or a meaning in the form of visual images. Commonly work by drawn and painted, but due to technology advancement graphic design now includes photography and computer generated images.

Graphic Design is not image (pictures) only but also letterform (typefaces)

Graphic Design has become a part of our daily lives, it is the way the world communicated with us without the use of verbal communication, symbols and logos tells everything we need to know of a certain object. For example,
this sign tells us that the room behind it is a toilet, no words used no verbal communication used just image.

The giant billboards besides the roads, books that we read, magazine that we read, advertisement that we watch are all graphic design that we use to communication to audience.

Graphic Design is the creative process of both art and technology combined to communicate ideas

Graphic Design is split into 4 parts Image based, Typeface based, Image and type, and Symbols and logos.

Image based design

This are designs that use image to represent ideas of audience. Images are powerful and compelling tool of communication, thus the proverb: a picture's worth a thousand words

Image based design are the best way to express a mood or emotion as the colours and lines will tell the audience the what kind of mood or emotion the image is trying to express to them. For example, the image above is expressing a kind of party-like mood and dance expression most probably a dance related design.

People sometimes reacts to images differently based on their personalities and previous life experience.

One criteria the image based design is that the singular image must convey the entire message fully with or without the help of a few words.

Type based design

Type based design focuses on wordings rather than the image itself, type face designs happens when designers decides to rely on words to express or communicated with the audience however the use of the words are different from writers.

To the designer the visual form of the actual word itself is just as important as the meaning of the word itself. The image above shows the word "Colors" to writers it is just colors but to a designer the visual effect of the word is as important as the meaning therefore and hence the colour of the word or the shape of the word is designed to match and fit the word itself.

Image and type design

The most common type of design used by designers to communicate as the impact done is greater than the stand alone based designs. The designer must find the perfect balance between both the image and typeface so that neither will outshine the other in the image.

Image alone might not tell the meaning, ideas or story well enough because of the different interpretation by the audience due to their life experience and typeface design alone is boring therefore, the combination of both will cover up the weaknesses of each other than becomes something greater.

Symbols and Logos

Symbols are highly condensed information in a small image, they represent something bigger behind the image that they are. Symbols or Logos are usually the face of a company and with only a glance people will know who they are, what they are, where they are, what they do.

The image above by looking at it we know its the infamous Starbucks Coffee franchise, we immediately know that they make coffee, sells cakes and is found almost everywhere. However in order to make a symbol or a logo that last for decades it is not easy as that simple image needs to carry a lot of information within them and tells anyone who sees it knows everything the symbols are trying to tell them without any help from a person or words.

Why do we need designers?

Clients sometimes tries to explain the idea or message to the audience but they stick too close to the meaning and the audience who has no clue on the message are too broad open to receive the message making it very easy for the client to miss the attention of the audience, therefore the designer is there to guide both the client and audience to the same destination using image and typefaces.
